Toccata Studio is presenting a new multidisciplinary performance featuring two prominent Malaysian artists of differing fields: composer/musician Ng Chor Guan and dancer/choreographer Steve Goh. This is an ongoing project with the first phase debuting in the second half of June. A marked departure from their last collaborative work, this piece takes a turn for a narrative of the speculative nature. Using accessible concepts such as time travel, the multi-verse theory, and the relativity of time, Ng and Goh, are attempting to grapple with the currents and rapids in both their immediate worlds and those they are embedded within. Interestingly, the artists, hailing from separate and different backgrounds, are often mistaken as brothers, even twins. Ng and Goh have always wanted to exploit this unique physical commonality in a collaborative work, and in this piece, alongside the aforementioned themes, they will explore specifically, with regards to their physicality, illusions of sameness, sight, and change.

What this piece aims to do is - instead of speaking of an indeterminate future - to discuss an imminent ‘tomorrow’; a deliberate teasing out of the anxieties the human race has always had for the future. After a long and difficult discussion, the artists, with the approval of its production team they have chosen the working title ‘2020’, a specific time merely five years, 60 months away.

Ng and Goh are internationally acclaimed artists in their respective circles and specialize in the creation of collaborative contemporary works probing the deep recesses of human nature. They wish to create poignant works resonating in their audience, works that will inspire and catalyze change in hearts and minds.
