Year 2016 of Space.Toccata

INTRODUCTION OF SPACE.TOCCATA

Space.Toccata is a creative research and development lab and hub for arts. Its multifunction appearance in the community plays various roles in the effort to elevate level of awareness in creativity and arts. We engaged people from all races, age, profession, religion through arts, culture and creativity.

RESIDENCY PROGRAMME AT SPACE.TOCCATA

2016 sees the launch of Residency Programme at Space.Toccata.
Open call all year round, not only for artists, but individual whose practice falls within the creative, innovative, contemporary, critical and experimental.

SONIC POEM by PAUL TIMINGS (New Zealand)

Paul Timings from New Zealand spent 3 months in residency programme, developing his project sound and visual interactive installation, “Sonic Poem”.

SPACETIME ILLUSION : Capture Creatures
A cross discipline collaboration project between original music, contemporary dance and experimental video. Space.Toccata welcomes Chai Mi (visual artist) from Beijing, Nurul (dancer) from Sarawak and Guan (musician) from Klang. The trio artists from various background showcases a multidiscipline experimental performance, improvisational and inspiring, communicating through their artistic practice respectively.

DANCE=MUSIC SERIES #13 KLNY

Dance=Music Series is a platform created by artistic director, Ng Chor Guan in 2013. This initiative brings musicians and dancers together, creating improvisational performance, using purely body movements and music created live on the spot as language to communicate. It has been running for 12 episodes. This time on the 13, we welcome Kensaku Shinohara, a Japanese dancer/choreographer based in New York to Space.Toccata, collaborate with music composer, Ng Chor Guan.

CAKE PROJECT

CAKE Project, a micro crowd funding not-for-profit initiative started in 2012, witness its #18 and #19 in year 2016.
CAKE Project is organised twice yearly, with an open call to those who have a creative idea coming to pitch at the event. Members of the public is widely invited to join with a minimum payment of RM15 going into a prize pot. In return, they get to enjoy homemade cake, coffe/tea, conversation, listen to creative ideas and vote for their favorite. The project gets most votes will win all money in the prizepot to kickstart the proposed project.
Guest performer will join occasionally, making short performances/sharing session.

TOCCAPOLY HOLIDAY CAMPS

TOCCAPOLY is an all art forms educational programme originally created by 6 artists/educators for children age 4-9. Toccapoly combines various art forms as one, exploring cultures around the world through hands-on activities that inspire creative and innovative thinking.

Hello all friends of Toccata!!

This ambitious project of <2020> started by Toccata Studio in 2015. This year in 2016, alongside Artistic Director/Composer Ng Chor Guan, Creative Producer Tan E-Jan, we are collaborating with Ting-Ting Chang, choreographer from USA/Taiwan, dancers from TTCDance Taiwan, lighting designer from HK, dancers from ADC Malaysia and 20 non-performer performers.

Cake Project #19

Hello friends!!

We have already in mid-August and soon it's gonna be September!! And, we gonna have our Cake Project #19 on 4 Sept (Sun), 3pm.

Why not book a date to come to vote for your favourite proposal or come to share your proposal? Write a summary of your proposal (not more then 200 words) to etoccata@gmail.com and present it on the mentioned date.

After all the presentation of the proposal, have a piece of homemade cake with coffee or tea. Make new friends and share your experience too!

And not to forget to share this Cake Project to your friends and spread this positive energy around!

MPO @Masjid Jamek

Hello everyone!! Yesterday on 9 August 2016 (Tue), we had performed Mobile Phone Orchestra (MPO) at Masjid Jamek LRT Station. 

For new readers or you forgot what is MPO, Mobile Phone Orchestra is an interactive performance created in 2011; as its name suggests, this piece features mobile phones and music. Mobile Phone Orchestra uses music tracks and lights to create different work each time it is staged. The tracks, recordings of sounds collected from various sites around the world, are paired with corresponding lights (this time colour cupboard) of different colours. These lights or colour cupboard become and function as signs, symbols for the ‘orchestra members’ to follow and play along; their ‘music score’, if you will.

The Littlest Funfair!

To all boy boy and girl girl!! We have another fun event and we called it The Littlest Funfair!

The Littlest Funfair! is a small-scale fun fair with booths filled with fun little games and art experiences that are catered to children aged 3-12 years old. From finger puppets to kinetic drawing, children can return home brimming with fun after spending a day with our hand-picked stalls, curated by Toccata Studio. Bring your little ones to have the mostest fun!

Sonic Poem

Space Toccata is introducing Paul Timings with his interactive sound installation, 'Sonic Poem', with collaboration of Kok Siew-Wai's interpretations of the alphabet with poetic expression.

According to Paul;

"The piece is based on the premise that we each interpret phonetic concepts relating to languages differently, whether it be through personal experiences and abilities, or our social and learning environments. The idea that a multi-modal mandate can extend beyond the language itself and suggest an additional concept of communication is fundamental to what I would like you to be able to explore, or even experience from the piece."

Come and join us this coming 7th August (Sun), 3pm for the launching and it will be open for a week from 11am-5pm till 13th August (Sat).
